Gunnery Sergeant United States Marine Corps (Ret.) Ryan “Koup” Kuperus served 17 years as an 0311 Rifleman, Reconnaissance Team Leader, and Force Recon Marine. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Unified Protector, leading teams in combat and special operations worldwide.
As a Gunnery Sergeant, he served as Chief Instructor for II MEF’s Expeditionary Operations Branch, overseeing Close Quarters Tactics and reconnaissance training. He retired in 2017, earning the Purple Heart and multiple valor and combat awards.
Today, Koup trains professionals and leads veteran-focused outdoor initiatives with his organization, The Reason Outdoors.
